I remember when growing up that my mom just loved it when we kids were off of school. Certainly I loved having a day off, but now when I hear parents who complain "can't wait for school to start again," I realize that I understand what my mom was saying back then. Adam thinks that I love it because it's all about my chance to sleep in (which, I admit, is a big plus), but really, I love having our schedule to ourselves. And maybe because it's winter and cold and so the idea of going anywhere sounds like a trial on my constantly-chilly self (afterall, I am wearing a fleece sweatshirt and scarf as I sit here and type this.....in my own house), or maybe because I'm now in the 3rd trimester (as my need to purchase a giant sized bottle of TUMS is the most reliable indicator of that milestone), but I am feeling perfectly happy to stay here at home.
For whatever reason, the kids were all content to do it too. And I haven't seen them play together this well in, like...ever.
And we're not even spending all our time on the Wii either, I might add.

I whole-heartedly agree! Who are these parents who can "hardly wait for school to start again"... I'm counting down to summer break already. As always, I love reading your posts, Jennette. I aspire to be half the writer you are someday...
Yup, count me in the summer-is-too-short and winter-break-is-over-too-fast club. It's partly because of my laziness, but, in spite of the mess and noise level, I really do just like having my kids around -- especially my big kids, the helpful ones, who will be grown and leaving me in not many years at all.
That's an adorable photograph. (And it makes your case really well.)
Amen...
Wouldn't it be nice if during breaks we got breaks from our church callings and all other responsibilities as well?
I hope you enjoy sleeping in on Monday (I know I will). And knowing you, you'll be off to do something great with your day.
