It was the perfect solution and we had a really fun time giving the party and being with all the kids. We had all of the boys meet at our house, where Adam played a few outdoor games with them while we waited for everyone to arrive. Then we had some pizza for lunch and Max opened his (very nice!--and wow, I need to do better when buying for other kids) presents.
Then we drove them to the ice rink, where I'm pretty sure that everyone had a really fun time. At least, they all worked themselves pretty hard and were really great sports, regardless of all the booty-falling that was going on. And we had cupcakes at the rink.

It looks like a great party. Max sounds like a pretty amazing kid. You are doing a fine job bringing him up. And (as per the post below) I know what you mean about parenting starting to feel real and bit scary but mostly exciting as they get older.
(You look so cute by the way with your itsy bitsy baby bump)
Happy birthday, Max!
A while back we decided to do friend parties every other year and now I've got Rose's and Mabel's friend parties to do within the same month as my baby's duedate. I have a feeling I'll be turning the party-planning over to Dean. With maybe some input from Mabel. It should be interesting, but I bet Mabel's up to the job. Maybe I can even get her to plan Rose's party.
I loved your description of Max's easy-going personality -- he actually sounds quite a bit like Isaac, although Isaac does have a few areas where he can get intense (like if he feels he's not getting enough time to play with friends, he can get pretty upset.) But Isaac does seem to have (fortunately) mostly evaded inheriting his parents' tendency to perfectionism.
Sounds like a great party. And Happy Birthday to Max! This is a big one! I can't believe you are due in two weeks. Keep us posted, Ok? Very exciting!
Hooray for having birthday parties anywhere other than your house! Can I bring Parker over with all his new Legos and have Max "teach" him how to put them together...and how cool they really are? He's just not catching the vision.
Hi Jennettie! I've been thinking about you since you're baby is due so soon! Looks like the party was a big success!
Our neighbors had an ice skating party for their 4 yr old. Let's just say, 8 is a much better age for it. =)
And I have to say that you look about 6 weeks pregnant - how would it be to be tall?
Lacey, Max was totally the same about Legos until just recently. He didn't do much more with then than dump them all over the floor and make me crazy. So I guess some kids have to grow into them. Oh, and the Lego Star Wars Wii game helped too!
Jennette, you are tiny...are you really having a baby soon?
We had a party for my 8 yr old at the roller-rink. It was definitely worth not getting my house thrashed by all the kids.
By the sounds of things, Max is a super sweet kid.
